Hairage Defined Hairage is the exposure (inadverent or conscious) of whisps of pubic hair out of the top or sides of a swimsuit (JE9024B). It is most likely to be spotted on very low-cut culotte nombril, or with v-kini or maillot that reveals inguinal lines. It may also be a very natural condition of a woman who possesses a thicker than normal grow of body hair (WB8502). Two fashion lines govern its revelation: the waistline descending, and the legline encroaching inside the inguinal lines. Hairage produced by a lowering waistline in the front is often complemented with rugage as the top of the buttocks iy bellage. Hairage may also emerge in crotchless designs, with pantyless miniskirts worn carelessly, with see-through, and, of course, in combinations. The exposure code for total hairage is P, implying total exposure of pubic hair, but hairage in which only some of the hair is showing would only be logged as an M or a L. The P code is also related to pubage, the exposure of the pubic area. Of course, hairage may be cured with shaving or a bikini wax. Or, heaven forbid, a larger bikini. Hairage Above the Waistline Threats to and teases of hairage have dominated bikini silhouettes during the second half of the 20th century in two ways: lowering the waistline and narrowing the front of the culotte. It may be produced in combination, and in see-through. Lowering the waistline dominates bikini developments during the 1950s, 1960s, and terminates during the 1970s with the string culotte comming to rest on or below the natural pubic hair line (JD89LB). The g-string is another natural driving factor (JD89FE). Confronted, some subjects shave back their hair, some don't, and some simply maintain their higher bikini and don't go for the extra inch. The lowering waistline progression may be seen by examing the progression of culotte beginning at any point post-nombril (JR7301) and traveling temporally forward: This sidestrapped red culotte (DB8202) threatens hairage at the top and side; and the low-riding string (DB8201), the beachwaker at Fire Island (FI8303), and the topless bikiniites at St. Maartin (SM8808) and Gaudeloupe (G8807) all hang on the hairage boundary. Some nombril cover the hair, but form a suspension bridge across the pelvis when the subject lies on her back, inviting a voyeuristic view (WB8413, WB8414, FL8612, G94804). The more daring VB8402, spotted at Venice Beach in 1984, elects to be unable to cover the top of her hair. PRI8802 exposes her hair on a not entirely private New Jersey beach at the bequest of her boyfriend, OB92010 at Chicago's lakeside makes no attempt to even cover herself, and PRI8503, RD8739, and JE8910A can't. Hairage at the Legline Narrowing the front of the culotte (and maillot) occurs during the 1980s and is coincident with the rising legline and narrowing back of the v-kini. This produces hairage to the side of the culotte as the inguinal lines become exposed (VB8415). Bikiniittes may either shave back their hair (reducing it to a racing stripe), exhibit hairage, or wear a wider bikini. The rising legline of the 1970s (VB8205) provides hints as to the direction of uncoverage. By the early 1980s hairage to the side of the culotte is an issue, witness (FL8607, or C8978). Hairage is also in play with the 1980s high-leglined maillot (SE9164), as well as the increasingly narrow-front g-string (JD89FB). The pressure on the pubic hair is intensified with the rolldown and the adjustable, which encourages further narrowing and an on-the-fly adjustment of exposure (LR86K, RT850F) designed to tailor hairage by the millimeter (NH8603). Hairage Everywhere! The extreme of it all is hairage at both the top and the sides, and event driven by the very low and narrow string (EE7410), the deep scoup v-kini, whether the side straps are worn below the illium (FL8711), or above (JE8906), by the micro-adjustable (RD8734, JB8705), and by the most minimal g-string (JD89LD, JD89M0). Other examples of hairage which border on the vulgar include see-through designs (JD89LC, JE8912, JE9025), the loincloth (JE9016B), and the unmentionable crotchless bikini. Hairage contributes to making the bikini dance. Deliberate or not, watching or not, caught watching or not: Hairage is glamour because anything near the edge of the envelope is interesting. Glamour Hairage Glamour hairage extends from Bikini Science into the realm of the ecdysiast. But bikini styling certainly does involve shaving--and sometimes not. Many men don't. So why should women? Or take the aggressive tact (T96478BS), when coloration is added to hair. This points us toward the more permeant body art developments after 2000. |
