Maillot Rolldown

Definition
The maillot rolldown, also called a maillot de roulè, is a one-piece which can be rolled down to the waist, so as to bare the breasts and render its wearer topless. It comes in all strap variations, but shoulder straps (KP88H1) and strapless configurations provide the easiest vector of doff and don. The term de roulè is also used as a modifier to indicate the state of a maillot as, "she suntanned by the pool de roulè."
The rolldown emerges in the late 1980s (G8814-16) and is catalyized by the advancement of the topless bikini, and by the related rolldown culotte, which, whether worn topless or not, also invites self-adjustment. Both maillot and culotte variations, because they are made from thin fabric, further invite reduction to maillot tanga and topless tanga variations, especially in the late 1990s All of these factors combine to make the maillot rolldown an extremely potent species.

Evolution
Except for rare example in pinup literature (RD197310), the evolution and rational of the maillot rolldown begins with the self-adjustment attitudes of the late 1980s and reaches full maturity at the topless beach and pool (G8852D), where the rolldown enables the wearer to vary their decorum from the sidewalk fruit stand to the beach towel.
Maillot rolldown's advantage is a single garment which transitions easily between the requirements of the pool and those of the street. Maillot rolldown is often strapless, but shoulder straps are common as well. It is almost almost made of thin fabric so it can easily be rolled down to the waist, even below the navel and the top of the hips. Thin flexible fabric also allows the legline to be simultaneously raised (G8837). Strapped as well as strapless variations are found both full-bottomed or tangaed (KP88K1); in the latter case the bikiniite must remain fully committed to a bare behind, where as the full-bottomed design allows the bikiniite to adjust the bottoms into a tangaed behind (G8835, G8850, G8877, M92554), or not. This silhouette is equivalent to a topless tanga bikini.
Maillot de roulè is sometimes combined with a narrow tube bandeau which can be worn as a belt around the waist or hips (playing with the layered look) and which, once the one-piece is rolled down, may be lifted to cover the breasts, should the unfortunate situation rise where coverage is needed (fig. 34-8, LI8801). Conversly, in skilled hands the belted rolldown can be manipulated so that the bikiniite is never topless, although her belly can be made quite exposed (JE8908).

Wildlife
Because the maillot rolldown provides coverage flexibility it is a popular costume at topless beaches where the venue of toplessness is always a factor. Rolldown is frequently a vehicle deployed at the sunbather's beach chair, as is the case with a family of two sisters (SM8820A and SM8820B) and mom, or the sunbather who sometimes combines de roulè with a t-shirt (C8986). Or it is an action performed at the edge of the pool (SM8503), and reversed once the subject moves from her beach towel (SE9176). It is the rare maillot that is left de roulè to and from the beach (M92440); to some extent this denies the purpose of the garment and bikiniites who desire perpetual toplessness confine themself to culotte, where covering up is not an option.    A maillot rolldown may also be deployed as a coverup to an otherwise topless g-string (SM8813) or tanga, and it is a de rigeur requirement for the Swimsuit Peddler (G8817A). If the peddler isn't doff and donning her maillot, her customer is (M92017).
On bikini beach, where topless is not really an option, the rolldown provides a method for the bikiniite who wishes to suntan her back and her buns to do so--it is easy to roll the maillot down and lie on ones breasts (KW8605), although nippage may challenge decorum.

Maillot to Culotte Progression
The rolldown may also be approximated by a series of individual maillots which eventually become a culotte. Two different sets of such graded costumes are presented here, one with normal bottoms, and one which is tanga.
   Such a Maillot to Topless Bikini Progression is demonstrated by a strapless (), a topless strapless (KP88R1), a montante (KP88R2), a nombril (KP88R3), and a mini-kini (KP88R4).
The rolldown maillot tanga may also be approximated by a series of individual maillots which eventually become g-string. Such a Maillot Tanga to Topless Tanga Progression is illustrated by beginning with a red strapless maillot tanga that covers the breasts (KP88K1), through a yellow maillot tanga which does not (KP88K2), to a topless very high waistlined orange tanga which covers the navel (KP88K3), to an ordinary aqua blue tanga which does not (KP88GR), to a blue g-string (KP88K5).
