Rugage
Rugage Defined
Rugage is the downward exposure of the top of the posterior rugae, that is the top of the buttocks, or in casual terms, the crack of the ass (JE9024B).
The fashion line controlling rugage is almost always the waistline, and a waistline lowered to this extent implies bellage. Rugage represents an opposite action on the culotte from buttage, in which the legline ascends from below. And it is the backside companion to hairage, produced by the lowering waistline in the front. The exposure code for rugage may or may not be logged as an A, depending upon severity of the exposure.
Many social conservatives consider rugage exposure vulgar. The sociologist Desmond Morris has suggested it is a backside equivalant to cleavage, and the skilled bikiniite exploits both to the fullest--as Morris explains, she attracts attention comming and going.

Rugage Pinup
Rugage is part of pinup vocabulary and ranges from the coy to the comic: the apparently not knowing to loosing one's bikini down the hips by exercise, the pulling force of water, or accident. Here a youthful bikinied Brigitte Bardot is just having fun (BB6710).

Rugage Practice
Rugage emerges as the lowering waistline of the bikini collides with the cleft of the buttocks (JD89LB). The event, which occures as early as the 1960s in media, is driven home as the as the sidestrap and string brief begin to play out on real beaches by the mid-1970s (RS7501). Most typically the display is modest: the standing (DB8202, RB8402, VB8416) or walking (G8852F) bikiniite, who often keeps tugging her briefs up (WB8503), the sitting subject, who "cracks her ass"when leaning forward (FI8311, CH8401, FL8600), and sometimes even the rugageite who does nothing but lie flat (NH8411).
But not all rugage is modest, accidental or casual, and in these cases the subject has no hope or intention of coverage, be they standing (FL8621, G8819, G8826), walking (FL8602, FI8303), sitting (RB8401, FL8706, T99374S), lying on their side (PRI8503) or belly (G8851), washing themselves with a hose (SM8507), playing in the surf (G8853), or letting their shorts hang off their hips (NYC8604). Sometimes rugage is almost a deliberate tease (SM8854). The microkini virtually assures both rugage and buttage exposures (JE8906), as does the extreme v-kini (RD8739). The rolldown allows the bikiniite to make choices.    Nor is rugage confined to the beach--low-rise pants invite rugage on the street, nightclub, and bar (TGA63T). Rugage can be evidence of the absence of underwear (TGA7CM), or can incorporate the whale tail of a tanga (TGA763).

Rugage and the G-string
Technically speaking, rugage may even play a role with the g-string, where it is considered to be presented if the back strings dive into the posterior rugae below the top of the crack (JD89FE). This allows the waist strings to follow the curve of the upper buttocks.
Rugage also is considered present if a bikini, tanga, or g-string is pulled to the side, exposing the cleft of the buttocks, such as when a bikiniite (AJA580) or tangaite might clear sand from her behind (CB9111). Some might argue this is not an advanced exposure, since there are few secrets being held with this part of the body. However it is the action which is important here.

Rugage
The lowered waistline at the backside displays the posterior rugage, or what is know of the cleft ofd the buttocks. Butt cleavage, cracks.
