   An interior view of the famous, enormous "natatio" at Caracalla. This swimming pool is in an open hall, surrounded by pillars, and hot and cold water fountains (1).

Commentary
   The pool itself, the entire floor, is 23 by 52 meters in size, and 1.2 to 1.4 meters (3 to 5 feet) deep. The Caracalla Baths are thermal baths, and incorporate many elements of the period.
