Lilian Bond Bare-Belly Swimsuit

Beach, Europe
c. 1929 BL2L50

Costume
Bra and shorts deux-pièces swimsuit or maillot cuttout. Belt.

   TML. Bellage.

Actions
A young Lilian Bond (most likely at the beginning of her acting career) stands on the beach wearing a swimming costume that bares a sliver her belly (1). No hat, no shoes; no inhibitions.

Commentary
Bare bellies and bare legs might a stable of dance outfits from the late teens and throughout the 1920s, but bare-midriff swimsuits are NOT. And so this young starlet is definitely breaking the rules--especially wearing this on a real beach outside. Separates emerge at the very end of the 1920s and the early 1930s, but only the most daring are prepared to embrace them.
