Faux beach, Probably Paris c. 1905-1908 VG1030 Costume Unbuttoned pink maillot pantaloon bathing costume, unbuttoned and topless. Fishing net. TMLB. N-2. Barefoot. Actions This bathing beauty is looking to scoop up some fish with her net, but in the process seems to have unbuttoned the front of her maillot and revealed much of herself (1). Her shoulder strap falls down as she fishes (2), and off when she sits (3). Back to work with both straps down (4) The back of one of the last of these postcards (5). Commentary During the early 1900 the maillot pinup is strictly a costume of the postcard pinup. And pinups often do not follow the rules of decorum of the real beach, like this one here, whose unbuttoned bathing suit displays an excess of her charms. Look at all the other maillot pantaloons--none of them have buttons in front. This example shows that breast revelations have been a part of the bathing beauty's repertoire for a long time before the so-called topless maillot.
