Hollywood, California 1928 CB2880 Costume Polka-dot black maillot tank. Polka-dot black maillot tank and shorts? TL. Armpits. Actions Like many of Clara Bow's movies, publicity is build round a bathing suit, and in this case it is a polka-dot maillot tank (1). In this scene with [a previous generation] Harrison Ford, Bow appears to wear a different polka-dot costume while "demanding her clothes back" (2). Go girl! Commentary Bow's maillots provide an inventory of of swimsuit fashions during the 1920s. This 1928 polka-dot appears to be a straight-ahead, state-of-the-art maillot tank, absent its skirt or its legs. It is a bit difficult to assay because of the sign, but it balances a relative high neckline, large armholes, and narrow shoulder straps. Silhouettes on the second costume suggest similar neckline and armholes, possibly with shorts overtop. Bow also does a deux-pièces dance outfit in this movie (CB2882). Source Publicity still from Three Weekends, Paramount Pictures, 1928. It appears that Paramount numbers such as 724-124 relate to this film. 2 pictures. |
