Mermaid Parade, Coney Island, NY June 23, 2002 MPA220-23 Costume Purple pasties and dresses. TM. N-2. N-3. Cleavage. Armpits. Actions At first glance this mermaid is topless (1), but when she turns around (2) and leans over her car (3) to put on her make up (4) one realizes she wears purple pasties with her purple skirt. Nor is she alone (5); a darker-haired companion (6) is similarly attired (7), as is a third fair-skinned companion (8) who is fixing her hair (9, 10). These are busy moments getting ready for the parade (11, 12, 13, 14, 15) and each mermaid must hustle (16, 17), and apply the finishing touchès sitting in the float car (18, 19, 20). Still, one takes time out to pose for the many photographers today (21, 22, 23, 24). Another contemplates (25) and poses (26), before helping a third with some final costume details (27, 28, 29). Everybody want closeups of the pasties and cleavage and so there is more posing (30, 31), including some very spirited movement (32, 33, 34, 35). But enough of this. The mermaids must attend to their float (36), and then ride it with smiles (37) down the parade route (38). Flashbulbs are everywhere (39). Commentary Pasties are very popular at the Mermaid Parade and the mermaids who wear them are not shy. Source Wildlife. 39 pictures. |
