Maillot Haltered The maillot halter can adopt many different leglines, but its initial impetuses is to enable a lower armhole and a bare back. In technical terms the haltered maillot has four edges: two leg-holes, one neck hole, and edge that run from behind the neck to below the arms and meets again in the center back. Emergence of the Species It is not until 1930s that the formality of the tank maillot begins to get new treatments, and one of these is the replacement of the shoulder straps with a haltered arrangement. This change allows the back to become bared. Hollywood star Clara Bow is one of its first proponents, in fact this bare-back haltered playsuit probably dates from the very late 1920s (CB2L10-15). By the late 1930s the haltered maillot has become the requirement for the swimsuit chorus line. Related Species The t-front haltered topless maillot. |
