The cape provides a complement to the culotte; the cape is a cape, and when a cape is removed Moffitt bare a truly topless bikini (3). Commentary Claxton and Moffitt report that this is Gernreich's first topless design. More on his early designs will be found in the Time Machine (date above). The design that catches the work by surprise is his topless maillot (PM6410).
