Cafe Royale, England 1957 CR5710 Costume Cotton jacket over strapped halter and nombril. TML. N-5. Actions Seen in England during a fashion show, this constructed halter and very low-rise nombril (1) point more to the future than the present, and show that the fashion world is often better than the pinup world at prediction. Commentary This is a very advanced bikini for 1957, with its very low waistline, the suggestion of a side-tie, string neck straps, and the busy pattern contributing to its modernist look. But the full halter and complicated construction project it forward into the 1960s, and it is a very prescient look into the future.
