Eleanor Holm Olympic Swimming Star

1937 LM37D5

Costume
   Tank maillot.

   TL. Armpits.

Actions
This Olympics swimming star brushes her hair back (1).

Commentary
Our authors suggest that "Holm convinced women it was possible to be both athletic and beautiful."
The tank suit is snug, open underarm but not as backless as Harlow has taken us. Holm was most definitely an Olympian, but she was also a glamour queen, not unlike a beach volleyball or swimming star might be today.

Date is estimation, with error probably in the earlier direction. She won her gold medal in swimming in 1932 and competed throughout the late 1930s as she moved into show business. 1 picture.
