Joan Crawford Busted in Dance Outfit

Burlesque club
1933 JC3310

Costume
   Stage bra and panty. Heels.
Halter and panty with loincloth. Headdress, shoes, two discs.

   TML. Bellage.

Actions
Police capture a rather scantily dressed Joan Crawford (1) and load her still resisting character into a paddy wagon after her burlesque show is raided (2). A companion, in similar exposure, looks back at her from the wagon door.
Note the diamond pattern on the front of the chorus girl's outfits.
Another costume in the show (3)

Commentary
Crawford, who begins her career as a chorus girl on Broadway is never shy about baring her belly and legs; she is a consummate dancer, and chorus girls who overcome adversary are recurring roles in her initial movie career.
The bare-bellied burlesque costumes permitted on stage during the 1920s (JC2450) and in the movies in the early 1930s are more revealing than anything worn on the beach (e.g., JC2750), but Crawford and others will assist in bringing the bareness of the showgirl to the popular beach.
