Bathing wagon, Ostend, Belgium c. 1923 PC2E20 Costume Maillot pantaloons. Hats. TL. Cleavage. Bare feet. Actions Four bathers lounge on the front of a bathing wagon, a four-wheeled cart drawn out into the ocean for changing and decorum (1). Commentary These form-fitting swimsuits, immodest leglines and bare feet all communicate the beach of the picture postcard sent back to the family or fellow workers from vacation. The dating here is difficult; the bathing wagon is should be going out of fashion, the skirtless pantaloons and cleavage are the domain of the pinup, but the photography appears to be a real, not faux beach.
