Baigneuses and Changing Rooms

Changing cabins, Le Havre, France.
le. 1919 PC1920

Costume
Stripped shirt and shorts, shoes, hat.
   Black maillot pantaloon, shoes, hat.

   L.

Actions
A young woman tying her shoe watches another heavyset lady enter a bathhouse (1).

Commentary
"Restaurant de la Plage," the eating place of the beach, lies behind the changing cabins as the central object of our focus, an overeater, enters her cabana. The boards and gravel suggest the English Channel lies behind us. This picture postcard combines elements of the real world with a staged situation and is an early example of what is called a "humorous" in the postcard trade.
