Ms. Sixty-eight Maillot and Fishnet

Studio with Ocean backdrop, Paris, France
c. 1915-1916 VG00B0_068

Costume
Maillot pantaloon with rolled-down stockings and boots. Towel over shoulders. Fishnet.

   TL.

Actions
Number 68 sits in her form-fitting maillot awaiting directions about what to do with her fishing net (1). The maillot, possibly wettened, reveals the contours of her full bosom and rounded stomach. 68 has neatly rolled her hose down so they meet with the top of her calf-high boots.

Commentary
This postcard, published by one of France's larger publishers, portrays a young lass far more dressed than most of her companions who pose nude. Publishers of the period will come to concentrate on two lines of product--the full nude, and the swimsuit girl, as seen here.
In terms of propriety circa the late 1910s, think of this model as wearing a swimsuit that is a bit more risqué that what a mainstream family would consider proper, but like today, possibly worn by the girl who wants to be sure to turn heads.
